It Deserves to Exist

It Deserves to Exist

Hello and good day!

Did you ever stop to think about why you do what you do?

I think I read somewhere that more than 40% or our daily activities are routine driven. We perform the same tasks, the same way, at the same time, in the same order day, after day, after day and we do so without giving it much thought.

If I recall correctly, our brains form habits to save on energy.

If you don't have to think too much about doing something, your brain doesn't have to expend as much energy making decisions. The upshot of all this is that it makes sense to form the right habits, habits that serve you, and then you will get good results on autopilot.

The inverse is true as well, bad habits will be carried out without much thought and make your life progressively worse. Many of my daily activities are focused on making our chocolate business successful. In accordance with what I wrote above, I do mostly the same tasks day in and day out and the results appear to be good.

But why?

Why am I so passionate about this company? Why is it so important to me that my habits be formed in that direction? I've thought a lot about this over the years and it can be summed up in one simple sentence.

Our company deserves to exist.  That's it.

A world without our company and our chocolate in it would be a worse place, and I can't bear the thought of that happening. This thought goes back 13 years to the very first time I tasted a sample of chocolate made with cacao that our company had purchased and processed.

We didn't even have a product to sell at that time.

My brother had spent the previous two years learning to buy, transport, and process cacao. This was the fruit of all that labor, a single sample. The chocolate was so different from anything I'd ever tasted.

And right then and there I knew....

I'd spend the rest of my life making sure that this product stayed in existence, because it deserved too. It was good enough to warrant the effort.

Did you ever think about the fact that most parents are willing to die for their children? If we see that our child is in harm's way, most of us would sacrifice our own lives to give our kid the chance to keep living.

Why? Same reason. They deserve a chance to live their life.

A parent already has some years under their belt. We've been able to see things and do things, to learn and love, and experience life's many ups and downs.

But a child hasn't yet.

It is only fair that they get their opportunity. They deserve to stay around. And that impulse drives us to do anything necessary to give them their shot at a good life.

One of my favorite things to do is go onto Google and read the reviews for our shops.  We've received about 20 straight 5 star reviews. Almost all of them mention the great customer service, which warms my heart to no end. It warms my heart so much because I am not the one giving that service in most cases.

It is our team, led by our wonderful managers, who give the service. I am usually out and about talking to people and letting them know that we exist and that they should come check us out. But it is our wonderful team who generates those reviews.

A team like that deserves to exist. Of course, many of the reviews mention the quality of the products. And it isn't just our big blocks of chocolate that are being mentioned.

Our new products, created by our wonderful and innovative chocolatier Javier Valencia, are mentioned all the time as well. A forum for Javier's creativity deserves to exist.

And of course, the very fundamental core of our company, pure Nacional cacao, growing on the farms of over 500 cacao farm families who sell cacao into our project, deserves to stay in existence.

It was thought to have been wiped out by disease over 100 years ago.

Farmers weren't getting any economic benefit from planting more of it, so they were slowly replacing it with higher yield, industrial hybrids. We've stopped that trend and we must keep it dead in its tracks.

A prosperous community who grows and propagates such a special and delicious ingredient deserves to exist. It is up to each and every one of us to ensure that what should exist, does exist.

We are in the chocolate business.

Whatever business or calling you are in, I hope that you are fighting and working everyday to keep alive those things that deserve to be alive.

I hope that you have a truly blessed day!

Adam
